How to Keep Your Skin Radiant This Diwali: Beauty Tips to Combat Smoke and Pollution

Beauty Tips to Combat Smoke and Pollution

The festival of Diwali brings with it not only joy and celebrations but also smoke and pollution that can harm our skin. From firecracker smoke to festive makeup, protecting our skin during Diwali is essential to keep it looking fresh and glowing. Here are some effective skincare tips to safeguard your skin and keep it looking beautiful all through the festivities.

1. Start from Within Hydration and Diet

Healthy skin starts from the inside. Hydrate well, aiming for at least 8 glasses of water daily to moisturise your skin. Also, eating foods high in antioxidants—such as berries, leafy greens, and nuts—can help fight free radicals caused by pollution. Vitamin C-rich foods like oranges and bell peppers support collagen production, helping your skin stay firm and radiant.

"Beauty is a radiance that originates from within and shines outward, transforming the ordinary into something extraordinary."

2. Cleanse, Double-Cleanse, and Moisturize

During Diwali, cleansing your skin becomes even more crucial. Start with a gentle cleanser that can help remove makeup and pollutants from your skin. For added effectiveness, try double-cleansing—using an oil-based cleanser followed by a foam or cream cleanser—to remove all impurities. Finish with a moisturizer to lock in hydration and create a protective barrier.

“True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring she lovingly gives and the passion she knows.”

3. Don’t Skip the Sunscreen

Many assume sunscreen is only for the summer, but pollution and UV rays work together to damage skin even during cooler months. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 each day to protect against UV rays and pollution. Layering it under makeup can provide additional protection.

4. Incorporate Antioxidant Serums

For added protection, use a serum rich in antioxidants like vitamin C or E. Antioxidants combat oxidative stress from pollution, helping prevent dullness and dark spots. A vitamin C serum applied in the morning can enhance your skin’s natural defences, leaving it radiant and even-toned.

 5. Weekly Masks and Gentle Exfoliation

Exfoliate your skin once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells that can accumulate from pollutants. Use a mild exfoliator to keep your skin smooth without irritating it. Clay masks or activated charcoal masks are perfect for detoxifying the skin and drawing out impurities. But remember not to overdo it, as frequent exfoliation can cause sensitivity.

6. Eye Protection and Soothing Remedies

The smoke from Diwali firecrackers can be especially harsh on sensitive eye areas. Consider applying a light layer of aloe vera around your eyes before stepping out—it forms a protective barrier while soothing any irritation. Rinsing your eyes with cold water or using soothing eye drops can also be helpful if you feel irritation.

7. Post-Diwali Recovery

After Diwali, treat your skin to a hydrating face mask or facial oil to restore moisture and calm any sensitivity. You can also do a gentle steam facial with green tea leaves or chamomile to help cleanse the skin deeply and relax.

Following these skincare tips can help you maintain a healthy, glowing complexion throughout Diwali while protecting it from pollution and smoke. Celebrate with confidence, knowing your skin is as radiant as your spirit!

Best Tricks to keep Fruits and Vegetables fresh for long

Best Tricks to keep Fruits and Vegetables fresh for long

Lemon juice
An effective antioxidant, lemon juice contains citric acid which prevents the oxidization process and, thus, prevents browning. Squeeze lemon juice over fruits or vegetables to keep them fresh. You could also soak the cut pieces in a bowl of cold water and lemon juice (one teaspoon juice for one cup water) for 3-5 minutes, before rinsing and draining.

Pineapple juice

Pineapple juice has antioxidant properties similar to lemon and can be used to prevent browning.

Soda water

In case lemon or pineapple juices are not available, keep your fruits from turning brown by using soda water or club soda. This preservative does not affect the taste of the fruits.

Salt

Salt is a natural preservative; sprinkle some over a plate of sliced fruits to keep them from darkening. Another way is to dissolve 1/8 teaspoon of salt into one cup of water and soak the slices for a few minutes. After draining, rinse them off with fresh water to avoid any taste of salt.

Citric acid

Citric and ascorbic acids are naturally forming organic compounds with antioxidant properties. Sprinkle them on freshly-cut fruit slices and keep them fresh for as long as eight hours.

Vinegar

This can be used as an easy replacement for citric acid, but it is important to dilute the vinegar considering its sourness. Add a tablespoon to a bowl of water and soak the cut fruit slices for a few minutes before serving or storing them.

Thermotherapy

To prevent berries from growing mouldy overnight, give them a hot bath to kill off spores. Next, spread them on a towel to dry and then store them in refrigerator.

Plastic wrap

Plastic wraps cut off the air contact with a sliced fruit, thus preventing oxidizing and browning. Just make sure that the wrap is covered tightly with no air pockets left.

Honey

Mix two tablespoons of honey in a cup of water and soak the sliced fruits in the mixture for 30 seconds. Honey keeps the fruits from browning by deactivating the enzymes responsible for oxidization.

Lime soda and ginger ale

Carbonated drinks such as lime soda and ginger ale contain citric acid. Soak the fruit slices for a few minutes in a bowl containing the carbonated drink. After draining, rinse them with fresh water or let the added flavor make your fruits taste a little different than usual.

Now, let's take a look at ways of keeping specific fruits and vegetables fresher for longer.

Avocados

Pip the avocado, squeeze lemon juice on the fleshy surface and then tightly cover the pieces in plastic wrap to last longer.

Apples

This method can be used only if the apple's outer layer is left intact. After cutting the fruit in half longitudinally, hold the slices together using a rubber band. This prevents the flesh’s exposure to air and keeps it from browning.

Apples

This method is best for apples that you plan to use for cooking or baking purposes. Put the slices in a pot of boiling water for around five minutes. Next, rinse them under running cold water and drain. The blanching process deactivates the enzymes that react with oxygen and turns the fruit brown.

Bananas

For bananas to last for a few days, seal them in a plastic bag and keep them in the fridge. The peel might turn brown or black due to enzymes present in them, but the cold temperature will keep the flesh within from ripening further.

Leafy greens

If lettuce, spinach or any other leafy greens appear wilted after being refrigerated for around two days, you can still regain their freshness with an ice bath. Dip the leaves in a bowl with ice and water and shake them gently for a few minutes. After draining, spread the leaves on a dry towel to get rid of any extra moisture.

Broccoli

To make broccoli and celery last longer, wrap them in aluminum foil before storing in the refrigerator. This will keep them from wilting.

Tomatoes

Always store tomatoes at room temperature as putting them in a refrigerator results in wrinkled skin and reduced flavor. Keep them in a bowl lined with paper towel with their stems facing upward.

Mushrooms

Mushrooms' freshness can be made to last longer by packing them in styrofoam with plastic wrap and then storing in a refrigerator.

Potatoes

Store potatoes in a dry place at room temperature to keep them fresher for longer.

Tips for Online Applications

BEFORE YOU BEGIN THE APPLICATION PROCESS:
  • Most districts have online applications, so you will need to read the specific directions for each district before you begin!
  • Gather all pertinent documents and have work history information and dates. Also, have the names of universities attended and dates for your education, title and dates of certification(s), and any upcoming tests you will be taking towards your certification.
  • Have electronic versions of the documents in case you can upload and attach them to your application.
  • Include a letter of interest and resume. Remember resume need to be accurate and concise. Always keep your resume current.
THE PROCESS BEGINS!

Contact Information:

  • Have pertinent information, mentioned above, with you when you start.

  • Physical address (local address, permanent address; i.e., parents home address).
  • E-mail addresses of references and your current personal e-mail address that you regularly check.

Employment Preferences:

  • Apply for positions in which you are certified to teach or hold a license.
  • If applying for specific positions, know the title and enter it into the appropriate section of the form
  • Substitute teaching while waiting for a full-time position may be an option you are considering, so decide whether or not you are interested in working in this capacity and answer accordingly.

Additional Information:

  • This area may include information on citizenship, language(s) spoken, and previous application with the district.

Certification/Licensure:

  • This final step of the application is often overlooked. As simple as it sounds, many applicants forget to click the "submit" button and the application is not processed.
  • Some online applications may have you click on "submit" for each section or page. However, you will need to scroll to the bottom of the application and click on "submit application" for the final submission.
  • If there are no options for attaching additional paperwork to the application, then you should fax or send the documents by regular mail.
  • When faxing, be sure to use a cover sheet listing the documents you are sending and the number of pages.
HELPFUL HINTS AFTER SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION:
  • After submitting your application, follow up with a phone call to the HR department in two-three days.
  • Ask specifically if there is any paperwork that you may need to add to your application file for administrators to view before an interview.
  • Ask if your file is activated and if there are any suggestions to make your application more appealing to administrators.
  • Ask if there is anything else you can do to help with your job search; i.e., send résumé to the campuses with a letter of interest

Tips for smooth, sexy legs

Tips for smooth, sexy legs

For removing hair, women opt for waxing, which is the most common technique.

However, you can also look at shaving, which is not only quicker, but also fairly light on the pocket. Some women, in fact, are also turning towards laser techniques for a permanent solution. Here are some tips and tricks for waxing and shaving to make sure you do it the right way.

- While waxing your legs, make sure the wax is not old. Check the expiry date on the container before you use it.

- Wax strips should always be disposable. Avoid using cloth strips. Also, wax shouldn't be too hot as it may damage your skin.

- For some, who prefer to shave, the basic mantra to start off is to wet your skin so that it becomes a little moist. Shaving on dry skin can be dangerous since the surface will not be smooth and soft.

- An interesting fact for the ladies is that shaving creams for men and women are the same. While the ones for women are expensive, you can try out the one for men since both have the same ingredients.

- Finding the perfect razor can be a task. Ask your friends to recommend razors with lubricated strips, pivoting heads and spring-mounted multiple blades.

- Make sure that you change your blade and cartridges on a regular basis, dull blades can lead to nicks and cuts, which can in turn lead to infection.

- Do remember to use an exfoliator before shaving so that the pores are cleaned and does not lead to clogging of the razor blade to avoid a close shave.

- Avoid ingrown hair by exfoliating daily and using a glycolic acid body lotion.

- Never forget to apply a good moisturiser after you shave your legs.
