Blackbuck case verdict: Salman Khan sentenced to 5 years in jail, What's the road ahead of Salman Khan?

Blackbuck case verdict: Salman Khan sentenced to 5 years in jail, What's the road ahead of Salman Khan?

A Jodhpur court has convicted Salman Khan in a 19-year-old blackbuck poaching case. Co-accused Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam have been acquitted. Salman faces between one and six years in jail now that he has been convicted in the blackbuck case.

What's the road ahead of Salman Khan? There are two scenarios now. If Salman Khan gets less than three years in jail, the trial court itself can grant the actor bail, which would mean Salman will not immediately got to prison. However, if he is sentenced to more than three years in jail, the actor will have to move the Rajasthan High Court and seek bail, which could potentially see the actor spending a night in jail.

While arguing on the quantum of punishment, the prosecution called Salman Khan a habitual offender. Salman's lawyer strongly opposed the statement, saying that Salman has been acquitted from higher courts. Salman is involved in social service, the actor's lawyer also told the court.

Salman has been charged with poaching the endangered antelopes under section 9/51 of the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and can face up to six years in jail, if convicted.
Actors Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam Kothari and a local resident, Dushyant Singh, are also among the accused in the case. They have been charged with inciting him to poach the two animals under section 9/51 read with 52 of the wildlife protection act and illegal assembly under section 149 of the Indian Penal Code. The punishment will be the same as that for poaching with a minimum jail term of one year and the maximum of six years.

Bigg Boss in legal trouble for 'exploiting national anthem'

Bigg Boss in legal trouble for 'exploiting national anthem'
Bigg Boss, one of the biggest reality shows on Indian television, has once again found itself in the middle of a controversy. This time, the show and the channel is being accused of exploiting national anthem for commercial purpose.
Jeetender Gupta, a lawyer, has filed a PIL in the Delhi High Court alleging that Colors, the Hindi general entertainment channel has "disrespected" the national anthem by using it to promote its reality show in various multiplexes. After hearing the PIL, a division bench of Chief Justice D Murugesan and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw has directed the Central Government to take action within a week against Colors.

“In the wake of serious allegations leveled by the petitioner that the national anthem is disrespected, they direct the Central government to treat this PIL as a representation and the grievances will be dealt with in accordance with the law. Necessary action would be taken by the concerned ministry against the respondents within a week.

In order to promote the show, Colors had displayed an advertisement inside the movie theatres and the advertisement was in the form of a visual displaying the logo of its programme “Bigg Boss 6” followed by an audio demanding all present in the hall to stand up for the national anthem. The message, 'Bigg boss chahte hain ki aap rashtriya gaan ke liye khade hon', (Bigg Boss wants you to stand for the national anthem), was followed by the Indian National Anthem.

The PIL stated that the channel is “trying to associate itself with the national anthem solely for commercial purpose of promoting its latest TV programme.

"The acts of TV channel and PVR amount to possible violations of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act 1971 and the Emblems and Names (prevention of improper use) Act 1950," it noted.
"They have utmost respect for National Anthem. And they will not be able to comment on the matter any further."

This is not for the first time that Colors has faced some heat over Bigg Boss. In the last season, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry had directed Colors to shift the show to 11 pm time band after it received complaints of inappropriate language. For this season, Colors had made sure that the show will be complete family entertainment and brought it back at 9 pm.

Chulbul Pandey will be Mumbai Police Commissioner in 'Dabangg 3

Chulbul Pandey will be Mumbai Police Commissioner in 'Dabangg 3
Mumbai: In 2010 Salman Khan delivered the biggest hit of the year: 'Dabangg'. Now that he is coming back with a sequel, producer  says the brand 'Dabangg' will be carried forward. Malaika turned film producer along with her husband Arbaaz Khan for 'Dabangg'.

"'Dabangg' is a brand....When we were making the first film, we did not make it with the intention that we want to make part two. It was later that we realized there is a potential and we can take the film ahead," Malaika told PTI in an interview.
"We would definitely like to make Dabangg 3,4. But it is too early to say anything right now." Salman himself had said earlier this year that in
'Dabangg 3', his Chulbul Pandey will be posted in Mumbai, as the Police Commissioner.

Talking about Salman, Malaika said, "He is doing fantastic. He has really worked very hard to reach where he is today. Actors have ups and downs, it is not easy. The best part is, his fan following has always been consistent."
Malaika said the combination of Salman and 'Dabangg' brand will create magic this year. "It is obvious that at the end of the day a Salman Khan film will without doubt have a good opening. But let's not forget that 'Dabangg' is also a
brand. There are loyal fans that would come to watch."
"People loved the character of Chulbul Pandey, enjoyed the desi hardcore feel."
'Dabangg 2' sees the return of Salman and Sonakshi in the leads. It is expected to release in December. But director Abhinav Kashyap has been now replaced by Arbaaz Khan.
Malaika admitted that there would be some pressure. "Now the pressure is of different sort as we have to live up to the expectations of the people," she said. In 'Dabangg 1', Malaika's item number 'Munni Badnaam Hui' had become a chartbuster. In the sequel, her friend Kareena Kapoor will stepping into her shoes.

"I am really very happy that Kareena is doing the song. She is family...she is like my younger sister. I am happy that she is a part of the film," Malaika said. But what about herself? When asked if she was doing an item number or a special appearance in 'Dabangg 2', Malaika said: "I can't tell you that."
She is also back on small screen as a judge for the reality show 'India's Got Talent', with filmmaker Karan Johar, choreographer-turned-director-actor Farah Khan and veteran actor Kirron Kher.
"It is a show which is completely different from all others that I have done. It is about all sorts of talent and it does not narrow down to only singing and dancing. Everything and anything that is possible under the sun is
there on the show."
"The performances have their roots from all over the country, from the remotest areas. I have done reality shows but I haven't done something which is connected to the common people."
The show will go on air from September 21.
