Bed Wetting Foods: Myth or Reality?

Bed wetting is commonly noticed in kids, especially those who fall under six years old category. It isn't caused by laziness or done to get attention. Bed-wetting maybe caused due to many reasons.

Children who do it just don't have the necessary control, and don\'t wale up when their bladders are full. Bed-wetting can also happen to kids above 6 years and the prevalence decreases as one grow older.

Children's who wet their beds produce more urine at night than others, because of a low level of hormone that controls how much urine is produced while one is sleeping. Other have bladders that just can't hold a lot.

Overweight has also been linked to bedwetting, as excess weight is related to poor kidney and bladder functions.

Tips To Control Bed wetting

Some foods associated with bed wetting include:

Wheat and dairy products, gluten grains such as oats, rye and barly, soy, corn, eggs, chocolates, and peanuts. The two foods that some believe may cause bed wetting - which are spicy foods and citrus foods is a myth.

There has been no evidence or connection between spicy and citrus foods with bed wetting.
Children's consuming milk close to bedtime. It is best to cut out dairy a few hours before going to bed and see if this works for your kid.

Chocolate has caffeine, which stimulates urine production. Certain Chocolates have more caffeine than others. Chocolate milk and hot cocoa are cotain a lot of caffeine. So keep them away to control bedwetting.

Food Triggers
There maybe certain foods that a child is particularly sensitive to, and that can cause bedwetting. This may differ from one child to another. Some common food allergens that can cause bedwetting are corn, eggs, peanuts, wheat, dairy and soy.

Children may be sensitive to foods that contain sugar. You may want to keep a check on how much sugar your kid is consuming either before bedtime or during the day, and limit it accordingly. Try limiting sugary foods from early afternoon through evening, to see if bedwetting stops.
