Premier of the Republic of China Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) with his wife, Soong May-ling (1898-2003), stand either side of Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948) after a meeting between Chiang Kai-shek and Gandhi to discuss matters of common concern to both India and China, in India.

22nd September 1931
An admiring East End crowd gathers to witness the arrival of Mahatma Gandhi (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi), in Canning Town, East London, as he calls upon Charlie Chaplin. Gandhi was in England in his capacity as leader of the Indian National Congress attending the London Round Table Conference on Indian constitutional reform.

16th April 1938
Mahatma Gandhi (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi) leaves the Presidency Jail in Calcutta after interviewing political prisoners. Gandhi went to discuss the possibility of their release with the Bengal government.

24th November 1939
Mahatma Gandhi leaves the home of Muhammad Ali Jinnah (1876 - 1948, left), founder of the Muslim League, en route to the Viceroy's Lodge in Delhi. 

26th August 1947
Mahatma Gandhi arriving through a surging crowd for a prayer meeting on the Calcutta Maidan, India. 100,000 Hindus and Muslims congregated to listen to Gandhi during the meeting in celebration of the Muslim festival Id-ul-Fitr.

7th August 1940
Mahatma Gandhi on his way by rickshaw to the Viceregal Lodge to meet the Viceroy of India.
