International Film Festival of India

The stage is set for the ten-day 43rd International Film Festival of India (Iffi) and it promises to be classier, with a lot of extra flab of film categories being trimmed and a minimalist approach being adopted.

The Iffi 2012 will heavily focus on celebrating the 100 years of Indian cinema and entertainment programme for the inaugural day on the evening of November 20 has been choreographed based on this theme. The dance performance holds a lot of promise with its choreographer Shajit Ali being guided by veteran Saroj Khan, who has lent her moves to every beautiful face on the silver screen from from Vayjanthimala to Kareena Kapoor.

The Iffi opening ceremony will be anchored by Kabir Bedi, one of the first best recognised Indian faces in Hollywood. The ten-day festival will be opened by Bollywood action hero Akshay Kumar in a 1.23 crore air-conditioned facility specially erected only for this purpose at the football ground at Campal. The highest number ever of 3,000, since Iffi came to Goa, will be able to attend the inaugural ceremony this year, chief minister Manohar Parrikar.

A record number of 13,000 delegates are expected at this year's film festival. The much-awaited film Life of Pi will premiere as the festival's opening film and will see its famed maker Ang Lee and renowned Indian actors Tabu and Irfan Khan making their presence felt at the festival.

The short film centre will not function as a separate section and all short films, documentaries have been integrated into one common screening schedule, Entertainment Society of Goa vice-chairperson Vishnu Wagh informed.

All the screening facilities will be able to accommodate a total of 1,800 delegates at one time and ticket counters will enable advance bookings to avoid chaos.
